Police Need Help Identifying Decomposed Body Found Dead in Field

 

AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Police Department asked for the public's help in identifying a man they found dead in a field last spring.

According to the release, on Apr. 12, 2023, the APD discovered a deceased man wrapped in a sleeping bag who was apparently deceased. The man is in his 40s or 50s and was only recognizable by the western clothes he was wearing, a 'unique' necklace, and the backpack shown below.

The Amarillo Police Department Homicide Unit is asking for help identifying a male that was located in a field in the 6600 block of East I-40 on April 12, 2023. The male was found in advanced stages of decomposition; however, is possibly a white male in his 40’s or 50’s. He wore dentures and had blondish gray hair and a full beard. He was wearing western style clothing, and his pants had a sharp crease from obvious starch. He was found in a sleeping bag and was wearing a unique necklace and had a very distinct backpack. The male was unable to be identified through facial recognition or fingerprints. Images have been attached of his clothing, backpack, and necklace. If anyone is familiar with these items and can provide any information on the identity of the decedent, please contact the Amarillo Police Department Homicide Unit at 806-378-9468.
