DPS: Shooter & Victim Have Same Last Name in Fatal Coleman Shooting

 

Coleman  – One man is dead and another is in custody in Coleman following a fatal shooting in an RV park Friday night.  The victim and the suspect share the last name 'Slayton.'

According to information from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Rangers have been called in to assist in the investigation.  

Below is the information released by the DPS late Saturday: 

On September 22, 2023, around 7:00 p.m., the Coleman Police Department (CPD) responded to a call of shots fired at the Coleman RV Park located in the 1400 block of US Highway 84.  Officers responded and discovered a deceased male victim with apparent gunshot wounds.  The murder suspect had fled from the scene before police arrived.  After a brief investigation, police located the suspect, and he was taken into custody without incident.  The victim of the shooting was identified as James Slayton, 42 years of age, male from Coleman.  The murder suspect was identified as Seth Savage Slayton, 30 years of age, male from Ballinger, Texas.  Seth Slayton was booked into the Coleman County jail for murder.  The Texas Rangers were called and are assisting in this investigation
