Texas Rangers Investigating Human Remains Found in a Rural Area

BENJAMIN, TX – The Texas Department of Public Safety announced Thursday that human remains were located in a rural county in the northern Big Country.

According to the DPS, on Aug. 2, 2023, Texas Rangers were called in to investigate the discovery of human remains in Knox County.

Eight days later, DPS is believed to know the identity of the deceased. Despite that, DPS investigators stated they cannot release the identity of the person until DNA is confirmed and the next of kin is notified.

The Rangers believe that this is an isolated incident and that there is no active threat to the public.

Knox County is around 90 miles north of Abilene in Taylor County. There are approximately 3,300 people who live in the county.
