SAN ANGELO— A San Angelo man has been arrested for stabbing another man in the stomach with a knife during a fight with his girlfriend.
John Salas, 31, has been arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon after getting into the with his baby momma and stabbing the victim in the stomach.
According to court documents, on August 5, 2023, San Angelo police were dispatched to the 2200 block of Colorado Avenue for a stabbing incident. The officer arrived on scene and located the victim that had been stabbed in the abdomen. The suspect, identified as Salas, was found at an apartment on the 2100 block of Colorado Avenue along with the knife, which was located in a yellow wagon.
The investigator spoke with a witness who said she rents the apartment and Salas stays with her in another room. On this night, she heard Salas and his baby momma arguing in the other bedroom. The argument moved into the kitchen and when the witness walked into the room, the woman Salas was arguing with said “help me”.
The witness told Salas to calm down and had a knife in his hand. Then, the witness’ nephew walked in, saw Salas with the knife, and tackled him. When the two went to the ground, Salas had stabbed her nephew and ran away.
Another witness said that he stays in the apartment sometimes and heard Salas arguing with his baby momma. He said that Salas was holding her while she was telling him to let her go. This witness began to slice the screen door with a knife and kick it in with his foot. Then, the victim tackled Salas and was stabbed.
The investigator then spoke with Salas who said he remembered getting into an argument with his baby momma and punched the door to his bedroom and that was all he remembered. When the investigator asked how the victim came into the picture, Salas said he ran into the house and tackled him. The investigator observed blood on the right side of his face, blood spots on his shorts, and scrapes on his right arm.
When speaking to Salas’ baby momma, she said that she had gotten up to get diapers for her child. Salas began arguing with her and while they were arguing, Salas grabbed a knife and did not threaten her. While they were arguing, two men came to the door to check on them because they had heard them arguing. Then, one of the men, the victim, tackled Salas and she ran away.
An officer spoke with the victim who said the Salas was the man who stabbed him. The victim also said that Salas made a move to stab the woman and he rushed Salas to protect the woman. Then, the victim was stabbed by Salas.
Salas was arrested and booked into the Tom Green County Jail and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He is currently and inmate being held on $75,000 bond.
