San Angelo Brute Arrested for Bashing Toddler in the Head with TV Remote

SAN ANGELO— A San Angelo man has been arrested for throwing a remote control at a toddler hitting the child in the head.

According to court documents, on June 21, 2023, investigators received a Child Protective Services Intake alleging that Michael Stewart threw a Roku television remote at a 2-year-old child, causing the child to bruise and bleed.

Investigators spoke with a witness who said on June 20, 2023, Stewart became angry with the child victim for blocking the television remote control sensor. The witness then saw Stewart throw the remote control at the victim, hitting the child in the face. The victim began to cry and ran into the bedroom. After a short time, the witness saw the victim had sustained a swollen bloody cut on the left side of the victim’s nose.

In a non-custodial interview with Stewart, he stated he was sitting on the sofa in the living room. Stewart then said every time he pointed the remote control at the television, the victim got in the way. Stewart allegedly told the victim to move which caused the child to “whimper” and run down the hall to the bedroom.

Then, Stewart said he grabbed the Roku remote and was “being stupid” and threw the remote down the hall towards bedroom, which the toddler was exiting and was hit in the face by the remote.

Stewart was arrested on July 7, 2023, and charged with injury to a child causing bodily injury and is currently an inmate inside the Tom Green County Detention Facility being held on $35,000 bond.
