Getaway Driver Gets Probation for Role in Drive-By Shooting

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – A San Angelo man pleaded guilty in a Tom Green County courtroom on Wednesday for playing a role in a drive by shooting.

According to court documents, on June 28, 2023, Joshua Cabrera, 33, of San Angelo, pleaded guilty to four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. In exchange for the guilty plea, Cabrera was sentenced to six years deferred adjudication probation.

Cabrera was first arrested for the assaults back in June 2022. At the time, Cabrera was accused of being the getaway driver in a drive-by shooting on Bell Street.

In the shooting four people were shot at while two were actually shot. The gun used in the shooting was a shot gun and the two people injured did suffer injuries from a buckshot.

Cabrera had two codefendants; Justin Martinez and John Medina. It is unknown the status of Medina's case but Martinez was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
