Comanche Woman Arrested for Possession of Fentanyl

 

BROWNWOOD— A Comanche woman has been arrested after trying to shoplift items from a store and having fentanyl on her person.

Information released by the Brownwood Police Departments says that on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. Brownwood police officers responded to 401 West Commerce Street in Brownwood regarding a shoplifter.

Once on scene, officers spoke with the loss prevention officer and the suspect, Norma Gail Smith, 33, of Comanche. The investigation revealed that Smith had allegedly selected a few items from the store then only scanned a few of the items before she tried to leave. She did not attempt to pay for all of the items she selected.

Officers also found a small clear baggy the contained a crystal-like substance the was believed to be meth and another baggy that contained a white substance that tested positive for fentanyl. Also found were debit and bank cards that did not belong to Smith and could not be determined if Smith had permission to possess the cards.

Smith was arrested for theft of property with a previous conviction, possession of a controlled substance, fraudulent possession of a debit card, and fraudulent possession of an identification card and was transported to Brown County Jail.
