Social Media Threats Made Against Schools in Concho Valley and Across Texas

SAN ANGELO— Several school districts across the Concho Valley and South Plains have had social media threats of violence made against them.

Seagraves Independent School District has issued a statement on a social media threat made towards the school. On Facebook, the Seagraves ISD posted:

Late last night, a social media post was made threatening Seagraves ISD. Local law enforcement, along with multiple other law enforcement agencies have been investigating the source of the message. Although we do not believe this to be a viable threat, we are following safety protocols to ensure the safety of all Seagraves ISD students and staff. Therefore, we will be cancelling school on Wednesday, May 17th, out of an abundance of caution and to allow law enforcement the opportunity to trace the source of the post.

We will continue to work with all law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of our students and staff. As new information becomes available, we will keep you informed. We appreciate your trust in us, as we all work together to keep our district safe.

A juvenile has been arrested by the Floyd County Sheriff and is accused of making threats towards Plainview ISD and Lockney ISD that forced those districts to cancel class.

McCamey ISD is also investigating threats made toward the school as is Sonora ISD. Sonora posted on their FACEBOOK:

During the early morning hours on May 15th, Sonora ISD administration was made aware of a threat to the safety of its students and staff. The Superintendent contacted Sonora Police Department and confirmed efforts to have a strong law enforcement presence on all campuses, in addition to the due diligence of Sonora ISD staff in keeping students safe.

The threat is through social media shares that have been posted across several states for several days. The threat has named school in our region. Sonora ISD was very recently named, and Sonora ISD takes the threat seriously. As soon as we were made aware of the threat, law enforcement was contacted, and precautions were amplified.

Sonora students and staff safety is the priority.

All SISD staff is diligently monitoring our students, staff, buildings, and facilities. The community will be updated if there are any charges.

Sonora ISD is taking all precautions to ensure your student’s safety.

On May 24, 2022, Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas suffered a school shooting that killed 19 students and two adults one of the deadliest shooting in history.
