SAN ANGELO, TX – A 40-year-old San Antonio man took a plea deal in District Court in Tom Green County after being caught with over a pound of weed.
According to court documents, on May 15, 2023, David Alcala Jr., 40, of San Antonio, pleaded guilty to Possession of between 4 ozs and 5 lbs of Marijuana. In exchange for his plea, Alcala will have to spend the next four years on probation and will have to pay a $1,500 fine.
Alcala was arrested back in March 2021 after a run in with a Texas DPS Trooper. On Mar. 8, 2021, a trooper conducted a traffic stop on US 87 near mile marker 494. The trooper pulled over a blue 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer that was being driven by Alcala.
During initial conversations Alcala was asked to step our of the vehicle. The trooper could smell marijuana emitting from the car. Alcala told the trooper that he only had a small amount of marijuana.
The car was then searched and the trooper discovered two 'flat rate' shipping boxes filled with 22 ounces of marijuana.
Alcala was then arrested and taken to the Tom Green County Detention Facility. He was charged with delivery of marijuana, and driving while license invalid, and received a warning for failure to display license plates. He was released on a $25,000 bond the day after his arrest.
