Sweetwater High School Placed on Lockdown

 

SWEETWATER, TX – Sweetwater High School was put on a brief lockdown on Tuesday morning.

According to the Sweetwater Police Department, on May 2, 2023, officers with the SPD were involved in a police chase near the campus. Out of precaution the school was placed on a lockdown. 

The following is a full statement from the SPD:

This morning, officers engaged in a pursuit with a suspect in close proximity to Sweetwater High School at 1205 Ragland Street. As a precaution, the campus was placed on lockdown due to the suspect being in close proximity. No threat ever entered or was on the campus. Law enforcement will maintain a perimeter around the campus to ensure no threat can enter. The suspect has been located and is in custody and the lockdown has been released.
