ABILENE, TX — When the babysitter, a minor, hired to look after an Abilene Police Officer’s child was offered by him two chocolate edibles laced with THC, she told authorities that she felt pressured to take them and actually ate one, according to court documents. But, she kept the second candy. That second candy ended up with the Texas Department of Public Safety’s crime lab where it tested positive for THC.
On April 21, according to the Abilene Police Department, the PD’s Office of Personal Accountability was informed that the officer, Adam Becker, 45, was under criminal investigation for an offense that occurred when the police officer was off-duty.
By April 24, Becker resigned from the APD.
The Texas DPS said Becker turned himself in to authorities on Thursday. Following a Texas Rangers investigation, Becker is charged with delivering a controlled substance to a minor. The crimes allegedly occurred in Taylor County and the case will be handled by the Taylor County District Attorney’s Office, the DPS said.
The Texas Rangers investigation was requested by the Abilene Police Department, DPS further stated. Becker is only accused of this crime, a second degree felony in Texas. Should Becker be convicted he faces up to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
