Abilene Police Officer Arrested for Giving THC Chocolate to Babysitter

ABILENE, TX – An Abilene Police Department Officer has been fired after allegations of providing a babysitter with a controlled substance.

According to multiple reports, on Apr. 28, 2023, the APD made the public aware that they were dealing with the situation. It is being alleged that the officer, while off-duty, gave his child's teenage baby sitter two squares of a THC chocolate bar.

The babysitter claims that she felt pressured to eat the first square but turned over the other piece to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The troopers with the DPS have tested it and confirmed that the candy did have THC in it.

The following is a press release from the Abilene Police Department:

On the evening of Friday, April 21, the Abilene Police Department's Office of Professional Accountability was made aware of a complaint involving an Officer of the Abilene Police Department. After a preliminary investigation, it was determined that the allegations involved a potential criminal violation that occurred while the officer was off-duty. Abilene Police Administration contacted the Department of Public Safety's Texas Rangers Division and requested an independent investigation. The officer involved in this allegation, Adam Becker, resigned from the Abilene Police Department on Monday, April 24.

Abilene Police Administration is aware of yesterday's arrest of Adam Becker. Further media inquiries regarding this investigation and arrest should be directed to the Department of Public Safety's Texas Rangers Division.

This is not a situation that is taken lightly and our Department will continue to work cooperatively with the Department of Public Safety's Texas Rangers Division.
