Convicted Felon Sentenced After Armed Stand-Off

SAN ANGELO‑ A San Angelo man has taken a plea deal after pointing a gun at law enforcement and ending up in an armed standoff back in 2020.

Dusty Large has taken a plea deal and has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after deputies attempted to serve an arrest warrant and ended up in an armed stand-off.

According to court documents, on September 15, 2020, three Sergeant Investigators and a Corporal with the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the 700 block of Cactus Lane around 3:15 p.m. to serve an arrest warrant for Large for drug related crimes.

The deputies verbally identified themselves as members of the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office while outside the residence. One Sergeant approached the front door and met with unknown subjects who were inside. When they asked if Large was inside, the Sergeant was told that he was in the east side of the house.

When both a Sergeant and Corporal were attempting to enter the residence, the Corporal alerted to the Sergeant that he observed a “gun” in the doorway. The Sergeant then stated he observed Large pointing a firearm through the door toward the two deputies.

The Sergeant stated that Large attempted to kick the door toward him, so he fired his service weapon toward the front door of the residence. Both deputies retreated away from the residence and set up a parameter around the residence.

At approximately 6:55 p.m., Large came out of the residence and was taken into custody.

Large was arrested for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, convicted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and two counts of aggravated assault against a public servant.

In exchange for the guilty plea, Large was sentenced to 10 years in prison for two counts of aggravated assault against a public servant and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
