SAN ANGELO, TX – A 35-year-old San Angelo woman on Friday was sentenced for shooting her boyfriend in the leg.
According to court documents, on Mar. 31, 2023, Monica Gauer, 35, of San Angelo, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a family member. In exchange for her plea of guilty, the court sentenced Gauer to eight years deferred adjudication probation.
The crime that was alleged occurred back on Apr. 1, 2022. During this incident, Grauer allegedly shot her boyfriend at the time in the knee. She admitted to police at the time that she had shot him during an argument. After he was shot, she claims he walked away.
Despite her confession, evidence proved that she was not telling the truth. Doctors reported to police that the man had been shot in the back of the knee. This likely happened as the victim was walking away.
Now she will spend nearly the next decade on probation. That will include monthly payments, drug tests, a probation officer, and more.
A movie quote relating to shooting people in the leg in San Angelo comes from the movie 'Lucy in the Sky.' Lead character Natalie Portman tells her therapist a story on how her mom shot a man in San Angelo. "Well in San Angelo a leg shot is considered a warning," said Portman in the movie.
