SAN ANGELO— An angry, cane-wielding San Angelo woman has been indicted for attacking another woman and her child with a cane outside a business on N. Chadbourne St. last December
Stephanie Renay Guerrero, 34, has been indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury for endangering a child and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. According to court documents, on December 19, 2022, officers were dispatched to the Joy Store, located at 2113 North Chadbourne, for a reported assault victim.
The suspects had already fled the scene when officers arrived, and the victim was at Shannon Medical Center receiving treatment for two lacerations on her head from a walking cane the suspect had used.
The investigator went to Shannon and spoke with the victim. The victim stated that her, her 15-month-old infant, and another woman were leaving the Joy Store. Then, the victim stated that she heard the other woman tell someone to “back off”. When the victim turned, she observed two females walking towards her and the other woman. One of the females had a wooden cane and was walking right at the victim.
The victim then stated she heard one of the females say this (assault) was for them jumping someone. The woman with the cane hit her so hard with it that the cane broke over the victim’s head. After that, the suspect began hitting her with her hands.
While this was going on, the victim did try and fight back but was trying to protect her infant who was in a car seat. A black male then walked up and began assaulting the victim as well. After a few minutes of this, a passerby showed up and began recording the assault. The three suspects got into a white SUV and drove off after this.
After speaking with the victim, an officer sent a photograph of two of the suspects to all the officers in an attempt to identify them. One officer recognized two suspects as juveniles but with this information, officers located the suspect’s vehicle on the 400 block of East Harris Avenue.
At the assault location, the investigator observed blood and two pieces of a wooden cane lying on the ground.
The investigator spoke with a witness and observed the witness’s video. Two of the three suspects were identified as juveniles and the third was eventually identified as Guerrero.
Guerrero was arrested and booked on January 14, 2023, and bonded out on $25,000 bond.
