BALLINGER— An equipment malfunction and concerns about inmate safety led to Runnels County inmates being transferred to the Tom Green County Jail over the weekend.
The Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office jail roster on Saturday showed a number of inmates from Runnels County being booked into Tom Green County. As of Monday, there are about 10 individuals who were all arrested by the Runnels County Sheriff’s Office. Crimes ranging from sexual abuse, aggravated assault, and drug possession make up the offenses most of these individuals allegedly committed.

According to information from the Runnels County Sheriff, a communication board in the Runnels County Jail that linked the main board to the inmate’s cells burnt out. Meaning the guards and deputies could not communicate with the inmates.
This led transferring the individuals from the Runnels County Jail to Tom Green, Coleman, and Taylor Counties for the safety of the inmates.
The Runnels County Sheriff expects the equipment to be fixed by early next week.
