San Angelo Murder Suspect Learns Fate After Testifying Against Co-defendant

SAN ANGELO, TX – Murder suspect Wendy McCluskey on Monday morning accepted a plea deal with the Tom Green County District Attorney's Office that gave her a decade's worth of probation.

According to the plea deal, signed by all parties on Feb. 13, 2023, Wendy McCluskey, 30, of Odessa, pleaded guilty to tampering with physical evidence with intent to impair. In exchange for the plea, McCluskey's murder charge would be dismissed and she was sentenced to 10 years deferred adjudication probation.

Along with the plea of guilty, McCluskey also agreed to testify against her co-defendant Abel Rueda. We previously reported in Jan. 2023 that Rueda was found guilty to murdering Juan Quintana in Oct. 2020. For more on the jury trial click here: Abel Rueda vs the State of Texas.

At the time of the murder, McCluskey was listed on the San Angelo Most Wanted List after she and Rueda fled to Big Spring after the murder. McCluskey did take the stand against Rueda during the trial and did testify that she was there the night of the murder.

The indictment stated that she shot Quintana. Trial testimony showed that Rueda had shot Quintana who was an ex boyfriend of McCluskey. The defense went after McCluskey's integrity though by pointing out she had already moved on from Rueda after he was arrested a month after the murder.

McCluskey will spend the next 10 years living on a strict probation and a $6,700 fine. It is unknown when McCluskey will be released from the Tom Green County Jail.
