OZONA, TX – The Crocket County Consolidated Common School District was put on high alert over the weekend after receiving a school threat. The threat turned out to be a hoax and was actually regarding Ozona, FL.
The following letter was sent out to parents of the school district regarding the threat:
January 23, 2023
Community of Ozona,
I would like to update everyone on what we currently know about the threat our district received on Saturday and how prepared our district is in a situation like this.
The boy that made the threat has been located in Houston and will be arrested shortly. We are not sure how he came into contact with an OHS student or why he made the threat towards Ozona. He used an IP address in Florida to send the threat. Oddly enough there is an Ozona, Florida and of course our beloved community of Ozona, Texas. We will release more information as it comes to us in order to keep you updated.
I want to assure parents that on any normal day we follow safety protocols including door checks throughout the day. Our classrooms are closed and locked and our entrances are monitored and inaccessible without being allowed in.
CCCCSD has armed Guardians throughout the district inside all of our buildings. Our Guardians will not hesitate to protect our students. CCCCSD houses an office on each campus for law enforcement and DPS. We have law enforcement in our buildings everyday throughout the day. It is important to note that if a threat is made, we heighten security on ALL campuses, not just one campus.
We take every threat serious and contact law enforcement so that they may investigate.
CCCCSD is required to conduct drills and have a safety audits conducted by the Texas School
Safety Commission We have had three successful audits this school year alone.
I want to thank Crockett County Sheriff's Department and Texas DPS for their work in this matter. CCCCSD and the Board of Trustees appreciate everyone's patience and trust in our schools. We do not take the safety of our schools and students for granted.
Raul Chavarria, Superintendent, CCCCSD - Ozona
