SAN ANGELO— A 34-year-old San Angelo woman has been arrested after brutally beating an elderly man recently in west San Angelo.

According to court documents, officers were called to the 2600 block of Junius Street for an unknown problem. Upon arrival, contact was made with the victim and the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Cherlinda McGary.

Both the 74-year-old victim and McGary confirmed they had gotten into a verbal altercation inside the residence before it became physical. The victim claimed McGary punched him in the mouth, pushed his head against the corner of the wall, and choked him. Injury marks were found on the victim that matched the allegations.

McGary claimed the victim assaulted her as well, but no physical injuries were identified to support the allegation. The victim did claim he grabbed McGary by the hair while she was choking him to get her to stop.

The victim is over 70 years of age and due to the physical evidence supporting that McGary assaulted the victim, McGary was arrested and is currently an inmate at the Tom Green County Detention Facility and has a $50,000 bond.
