Violent San Angelo Man Sentenced for Threatening to Shoot Woman over Lost Keys

SAN ANGELO— A San Angelo man has pleaded guilty and has been sentenced for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon after losing his temper and threatening to kill two other people.

According to court documents, San Angelo police responded the 900 block of North Chadbourne to speak with a female victim who claimed the defendant, identified as Jeremiah Chavarria, pointed a firearm at her head and threatened to kill her.

Investigators spoke with the victim who stated she was at Chavarria’s residence on October 28, 2021, when Chavarria became argumentative with her about losing his keys. Chavarria suspected the victim was in possession of them but during the argument, the male victim walked into the room and was in possession of Chavarria’s keys.

Chavarria left the residence for a short time but returned and displayed a black handgun. He was pointing the gun back and forth between both victims saying they were all going to die. Immediately after that threat, Chavarria fired two rounds from the handgun, one into the floor and one into the wall. The man fled the scene in fear of being shot.

The female victim claimed that Chavarria forced her on her knees and said they were both going to die. He knelt down alongside the female victim and acted like he would shoot himself in the head resulting in the bullet going through him and into the female victim’s head.

After this, Chavarria forced the female victim into a vehicle verbally which she complied with due to Chavarria still being armed. The victim stated Chavarria then drove around San Angelo before arriving back at the residence where a patrol officer with the San Angelo Police Department happened to drive up which gave her the opportunity to leave.

A search warrant was executed on October 29, 2021, for Chavarria’s residence where what appeared to be bullet holes were located in the floor and wall.

Chavarria was arrested on October 29, 2021 after a chase that ended near the Central Freshman Campus.

Inn exchange for his guilty plea Chavarria was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
