SAN ANGELO – Tom Green County Sheriff's Deputies team up with San Angelo Police using drones and dogs to hunt down and capture a dangerous biker who stole a Harley and evaded capture for days.
According to the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office, Warrants Division Deputies were conducting an investigation Thursday into the whereabouts of 37-year-old Steven Smith, who was the suspect previously identified as evading on a motorcycle on December 9th.
During this time, a vehicle that Smith was possibly in was located and the Sheriff's Office Patrol Division began following. Shortly after, the vehicle began making strange turns near the area of Green Meadow Drive and Willow Circle. The vehicle made a sudden stop and Smith exited the passenger seat of the vehicle and evaded on foot through an alley and into a yard. The female driver stayed at her vehicle and cooperated with police. She was later released with no charges.
The San Angelo Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety were requested to assist. A perimeter was set up in the area and as SAPD K-9 and drone units were deploying, Smith was spotted at which time he ran away again, jumping the fence of a residence in the area. SAPD Officers and TGSO Deputies pursued and Smith was caught and arrested without further incident at 4:07 PM. He was transported to the jail for his warrants, as well as an additional charge from this incident: Evading Arrest/Detention with Previous Conviction, a State Jail Felony.
The Tom Green County Sheriff's office wishes to thank the San Angelo Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety, as well as the citizens in the area who assisted during the initial search.

The combination of drones, dogs, and infrared imaging makes it virtually impossible to evade. Good job to all 3 enforcement agencies.
