San Angelo Man Indicted for Violent Assault of a Woman with a Knife

 

SAN ANGELO- A San Angelo man has been indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he choked and held a knife to a woman't throat during a violent assault.

According to court documents, the unidentified woman met with officers at the San Angelo Police Department about an assault that occurred on February 17, 2022 at the 1300 block of South David Street. Investigators spoke with the victim and learned from her that she was attempting to leave her residence after an argument with the defendant, identified as Mahkya Askew.

Askew allegedly chased the victim and forced her back into the residence which caused the victim to fall to the floor. The woman said Askew then locked the door. He then allegedly kicked and choked the victim nearly causing the victim to pass out.

Then, the victim said Askew displayed a knife and placed the blade on her neck, saying he would kill her if the police were called.

The investigator viewed photos of the victim’s injuries which showed fresh bruising and scratches which were consistent with an assault and corroborated the victim’s statement.

Askew was arrested on February 23, 2022 and posted a $50,000 bond on February 26, 2022.
