Police: Don't be an Easy Target for Thieves This Holiday Shopping Season

SAN ANGELO – The San Angelo Police Department is reminding residents that burglars and thieves are busy during this holiday season and there are ways to protect yourself and your purchases.

Here's some good advice from a recent SAPD social media post: As we continue into the holiday season, the San Angelo Police Department would like to share some tips to prevent you from becoming a victim of package thefts or vehicle burglaries.

Vehicle Burglary Tips:

1.) Always lock your vehicle and take your keys.

2.) Never leave your car running and unattended.

3.) Park in a well-lit area.

4.) Take valuables with you when you are not in your vehicle.

5.) Keep valuables out of sight.

6.) Install an alarm and set it whenever you park your vehicle.

Package theft tips:

1.) Have your package shipped to your place of work (with permission of your employer.

2.) Have a neighbor take possession of your package if it is delivered when you're not at home.

3.) Request that a signature be required for the package to be delivered.

4.) Request an alternative delivery method. (Such as picking the package up directly from the post office/mail carrier.)

5.) Invest in a package lock box that hides your packages in a secure container that only you will have access to.

6.) Report suspicious activity.
