Suspect wanted for Shooting a Sweetwater Man in the Head Has Been Arrested in Odessa

SWEETWATER – A Sweetwater man wanted for an attempted capital murder was arrested in the Permian Basin last Wednesday.

According to the Sweetwater Police Department, on Wednesday, August 15, 2022, 26-year-old Joshua Coronado was arrested by the Odessa Police Department on an Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon warrant issued by the Sweetwater Police Department. The warrant was issued after an Attempted Capital Murder that occurred in July of 2022.

On July 16, 2022, at approximately 2:00 a.m., a female subject entered the lobby of the Sweetwater Police Department and stated Coronado had been shot at a residence on the 100 block of Fisher Street. When officers arrived at the residence, they located blood in multiple locations, but a victim was not located.

Later that morning, Coronado was located at a residence near County Road 216 in Nolan County. Coronado was transported to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital and then Hendrick Medical Center where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the head. Coronado was released upon recovery.

Investigators determined Timothy Hernandez got into a physical altercation with Coronado. During the altercation, Hernandez obtained possession of a firearm and allegedly shot Coronado in the head. Hernandez, Andres Diaz, and Christopher Kirkland then loaded Coronado’s body into the bed of a stolen pickup and dumped his body into the brush on County Road 216.

Hernandez, Diaz, and Kirkland were arrested by the Sweetwater Police Department in July of 2022. All three suspects remain in the Nolan County Jail. During the course of the investigation, enough evidence was gathered to obtain a warrant for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon for Coronado.

Coronado was transported to the Nolan County Jail on August 24, 2022. His bond is set at $50,000.

A truly confusing article. J. Coronado was involved in an altercation with one or more subjects. Coronado was shot in the head with a gun possibly? taken from him. Three individuals, including the shooter, moved his "body", which to me implies he was dead, to a rural area and dumped. Somehow, Coronado miraculously recovered and found his way to safety, and was arrested for shooting someone??? in the head?

I think we're missing some major details here..... get on it Matt...

Got it figured out.... I think. It was the inaccurate headline that threw me off. He wasn't wanted or arrested for shooting anyone, but rather assault with a deadly weapon.  Either way, I'll rest easier if they all spend a long time in the slammer.
