SAN ANGELO – A San Angelo man who's had several run-ins with the law was sentenced to 12 years in prison Friday after pleading guilty to 12 charges filed against him.
According to court documents, Michael Ray Rodriguez, 26, was charged with one count of burglary of a habitation, two counts of assault against a pregnant person, two counts of evading arrest with a vehicle, one count of assault against a peace officer, one count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, one count of evading arrest that caused serious bodily injury, and violation of a protective order and stalking.
Rodriguez has been in the Tom Green County Detention Facility since Nov. 2019. During one incident, police went to the home of an individual Rodriguez was not legally allowed to be around. After police arrived, Rodriguez stole the officers patrol unit, injured the officer, and drove off. He eventually crashed the vehicle into a residential home.
In the agreement, Rodriguez pleaded guilty in exchange for a 12 years prison sentence.
Prior to taking the deal, Rodriguez wrote a letter to the judge apologizing for his actions. In the letter he blamed his alcoholism that he acquired following the death of his step father. He claims that he is now nine months sober. Thanks to the plea deal he will now extend that sobriety into the next decade while in prison.
