LUBBOCK – A California man has taken a plea deal in Lubbock County for a brutal 2020 stabbing murder of his boyfriend in Lubbock.
Alexander Yoichi Duberek, 24, pleaded guilty to interstate domestic violence after stabbing his boyfriend, 30-year-old Chad Luera, to death in Lubbock.
According to court documents, Duberek traveled from California to Lubbock to murder his then boyfriend Lurea. When Duberek arrived in Lubbock, he purchased a Toyota Camry for $3,000 then went to Wal-Mart and bought over $500 worth of items.
Those items include a vehicle seat cover, tick repellant, a gas can, a hatchet, a knife, a head lamp and flashlight, a backpack, a collapsible shovel, bath towels, Febreeze, water boots, a jacket, a first aid kit, personal hygiene items, and clothing.
According to evidence presented at trial, Duberek stabbed Luera 93 times and dumped his body on FM 400 where his body was discovered a few days later.
After Luera’s murder, Duberek fled to Houston and sold the vehicle he purchased when he arrived in Lubbock to an auto auction. Upon searching that vehicle, investigators found blood in the back seat that match the victim.
Duberek faces life in prison should the judge accept the deal.
