Suspect Accused of Murdering Hailey Dunn Requests Change of Venue

COLORADO CITY – The suspect who allegedly killed Hailey Dunn was in court today and his attorneys have requested a change of venue for the trial.

Shawn Adkins appeared at the Mitchell County Courthouse in Colorado City Thursday morning for a pretrial hearing in the murder of 13-year-old Hailey Dunn. Adkins was originally arrested last year for the crime.

Adkins and attorneys from both sides were in attendance Thursday morning where Adkins’ team requested a change of venue. The trial is set to begin on April 11, 2023.

Adkins’ attorneys stated the media attention spurred the request to move the trail to a different location.

In December 2010, Dunn was last seen leaving her house. In 2013, her remains were located in Scurry County near Lake JB Thomas.

Adkins was the live-in boyfriend of Billie, Hailey’s mother and was a person of interest in the investigation.

Adkins declined to comment when asked if he had anything to say.

Adkins has been charged with murder and tampering with evidence and is being held at the Mitchell County Jail on $2,000,000 bond.
