FAKE NEWS: No, There Was Not an Active Shooter in the Permian Basin

MIDKIFF, TX – A prank caller was arrested by Texas Rangers on Thursday after he cried wolf regarding an active shooter.

According to the Midland County Sheriff's Office, on Jun. 16 at around 10 a.m., dispatchers with the MCSO received a call regarding a possible aggravated kidnapping and shots fired near the intersection of CR320 and Rankin Highway 349.

When the deputies arrived they discovered that the call was a hoax and that no shooting had occurred. The call was also spread over social media. In a circulating post it was alleged that law enforcement personnel were shot and killed at the scene. It was also claimed there was an active shooter on the loose.

It has been confirmed that the Texas Rangers assisted the MCSO and that a person was arrested for filing a false report.
