SAN ANGELO, TX – Day one of the State of Texas v. Garry Jennings has yielded the 12 jurors who will decide the fate of the 65-year-old Tom Green County man accused of participating in the gruesome murder of Eric Torrez.
The first day of the trial kicked off Friday at 8:30 a.m. It started with the both parties announcing that they were ready to proceed.
On one side was the 119th District Attorney John Best and his assistant DA Richard Villarreal. Across the aisle sat the defendant Garry Lynn Jennings and his attorney John Sutton.
The extensive workday began at 8:30 and wrapped up later that night at 7 p.m. During this time both parties agreed on 12 different jurors with 2 alternates.
The 14 residents of Tom Green County that made up the jury included ten men and four women. The 12 jurors will not only decide whether Jennings is guilty or innocent but they will also be in charge of the punishment phase.
Jennings is facing three different charges: Murder, Aggravated Kidnapping, and Tampering with Physical Evidence with intent to Impair a Human Corpse. The victim in the alleged murder is Eric Torrez. The jury trial reconvened on Monday morning at 8:30 a.m.
