Odessa Man Charged with Murder in Shooting Death of a Teen

 

ODESSA – A 19-year-old Odessa teen was killed on Sunday after he was shot by a 35-year-old man.

According to the Ector County Sheriff's Office on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at approximately 22:24 hours, Ector County Sheriff’s Office received a call about an accident near the intersection of W 16th Street and Tim Tam Circle.

Initial information advised of a vehicle running through a fence and ending up in the middle of a field. While responding to the initial accident call, Ector County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a female individual advising of a disturbance and possible gunshot victim at the same location of the vehicle accident.

Patrol deputies arrived at the location of the disturbance and found a male subject with a single gunshot wound to his torso.

The gunshot victim, Mauricio Israel Islas, 19 years of age, was transported to Medical Center Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The suspect, Craig Vaughn Bowers, 35 years of age, was detained and several witnesses were located and interviewed at the scene. During the investigation, Bowers was placed into custody for murder and is being held on a $250,000.00 bond.

The victim's next of kin has been notified
