Midland Probationary Police Officer Arrested for Hindering Apprehension of Fugitive

MIDLAND – A Midland probationary police officer was arrested Monday for hindering the apprehension of a wanted fugitive.

According to Midland Police, Jake Salas was arrested by Midland police on Monday, April 18, 2022, after allegedly giving information to a suspect the police were going to arrest.

According to the arrest affidavit, an unidentified woman told the Midland Police Department that she knew where a wanted fugitive was and would offer help to capture him. While attempting to capture the fugitive, the woman received a phone call from the officer she was working with.

The woman acted like she was speaking with her father but another woman, identified as Iris Parrish, was close enough to the woman to tell she was talking with a police officer. The woman helping became worried about her own safety, hung up the phone, and deleted the call from her recent call history.

While driving to a residence, the woman sitting next to the fugitive said he received a phone call from Parrish. The woman claimed to have heard a male voice on the call with Parrish. This voice was identified as Jake Salas.

The woman said that Salas told Parrish that the Midland Police Department knew where the fugitive was, what vehicle he was driving, and that they needed to hide. Parrish then repeated this information.

When officers arrived at the residence, the fugitive considered running but surrendered to officers. When he was interviewed, the wanted man denied having contact with Salas. The police did find the call from Parrish in the phone's history.

Officers interviewed Jake Salas who admitted he told his wife, Beatrice Salas, that police were looking for her brother. The fugitive implied it was nice to have Salas as an officer and that he knew he would be working that night.

Salas agreed to have officers view his call history but denied them when they asked to search through the pictures. Later, police found a photo of an important paper involving the fugitive on the phone. Salas also had access to the dispatch radio and called his wife several time while the search for the fugitive was going on.

A search warrant was obtained, and it was learned that Beatrice Salas had sent messages to the fugitive and told him to hide.

Jake Salas and Beatrice Salas were both arrested and charged with hindering an apprehension while Iris Parrish turned herself in and was charged with the same crime.
