Illegal Aliens Locked in Railroad Car Haulers Rescued

EAGLE PASS – Border agents assigned to Del Rio Sector’s Intelligence Unit rescued 50 illegal migrants locked inside a rail car, April 12.

At approximately 9 p.m., Del Rio Sector Intelligence Unit agents received information from railroad security officials regarding multiple subjects locked inside car haulers parked on the railroad tracks near Eagle Pass.

The railroad security team noticed seals on several car haulers were different and didn’t correspond to what they normally use. Agents inspected the cars and found 50 illegal aliens locked inside the car haulers with no means of escape, as temperatures topped 100 degrees. The subjects were provided water and monitored with no further incident. All individuals were arrested and identified as undocumented migrants illegally present in the United States.

The subjects, 41 Honduran nationals and nine Mexican nationals, were transported to Eagle Pass South Station Processing Facility and processed in accordance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection policies and guidelines.

“Migrants are not always aware of the dangers associated with tactics like these,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Jason D. Owens. “With high temperatures, and Summer rapidly approaching, the consequences could be deadly. Don’t trust a smuggler!”
