San Angelo Veterinarian Convicted of Murdering Her Husband to be Featured on National TV Show

SAN ANGELO, TX – The woman who was convicted of murdering her husband and dumping his body in a stock tank outside of San Angelo will be speaking publicly for the first time this Friday during an episode of the TV show 20/20 on ABC.

The show will tell the story of husband and wife; Michael Severance and Wendi Mae Davidson.

Michael was born in Maine but left to join the Air Force. During his time he served five tours and earned the rank of staff sergeant. Following his tours of duty he was sent to West Texas where he served  at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene.

Wendi was born in and raised on a ranch outside San Angelo. She attended Texas A&M University. During her time there she had her first child, a boy, and also received her Veterinarian degree. Following graduation, Wendi moved back home and began working at the Advanced Animal Care clinic on Sherwood Way in San Angelo.

At the age of 24, Michael met Wendi in San Angelo in 2003. Shortly after they met the two had a child together and were married by Sep. 2004. The couple then purchased and moved into an apartment in the back of the animal clinic.

Michael's family back in Maine then scheduled a wedding reception for his side of the family. The couple was scheduled to arrive on Jan. 16, 2005. Days before the arrival, Wendi contacted Michael's family and told them that he had gone missing.

The San Angelo Police Department was alerted and Wendi was interviewed. During the interview she claimed that Michael had been drinking a lot in fear of returning to war. She also made claims that he was planning on running away from his duty.

The Texas Rangers were called in but had no luck finding Michael. On Jan. 24, 2005, the Air Force began investigating after Michael failed to return from leave. During the Air Force's AWOL investigation, it was revealed that Wendi had searched on her computer for how to pass polygraph tests and then something with the words "decomposition of a body in water."

The Air Force then placed a GPS tracker on her car and discovered that she frequently visited a ranch in Northern Tom Green County. After being asked about the ranch, Wendi became defensive especially when the pond was brought up.

On Jan. 15, 2005, authorities discovered Wendi attempting to enter the property. After being turned away, Wendi went and met with her family. She told them that she had found Michael dead and had moved his body to the pond on the property.

The brother then called the police and Wendi was arrested. The following morning, Michael's body was found in the pond being held down by car parts, tires, and cinder blocks. The worst detail was that he had been stabbed 41 times.

Autopsy reports revealed that Michael was drugged by animal tranquilizers and then stabbed following his death.

Wendi was charged with murder and two counts of tampering with evidence. She pleaded no contest to the charges, was found guilty and sentenced to 25 years in prison. She is scheduled to be released in 2031.

To this day Wendi claims that she is innocent. Her claim is that she found Michael dead and that she believes one of her family members was responsible. Wendi's mother has been recording saying “I’m not going to lie — I didn’t like him. Never did. Never will." Authorities ruled out her mother after documents were found that were forged by Wendi in relation to hiding the horse tranquilizer.

The show will air Friday, Mar. 25, 2022 at 8 p.m. on ABC. The episode will be available the following day on HULU.
