UPDATE: Hotel Shooting Deemed Murder-Suicide

 

ABILENE, TX – The Abilene Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one dead and one seriously injured Sunday. 

According to the Abilene Police Department, on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022, just after 6 a.m. officers with Abilene Police Department were called to a hotel located in the 3500 Block of West Lake Road in North Abilene for a call of an injured subject.

Police arrived to find a deceased man in one of the motel rooms. A female, who was also in the room with the male and was known to him, was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound.

She is currently listed in critical condition.

It appears both the male and the female in this incident knew each other. Both have addresses listed outside of the Abilene area. There is currently no perceived threat to the public.

No arrests have been made. A motive for the shooting is currently under investigation. The identity of the victim will be released pending next of kin notification.

UPDATE Feb. 28, 2022 at 1 p.m.:

The female in this incident, was taken off life-support this morning. Next of kin notification has been made. The female is identified as 24-year-old Chyanne Villarreal of Lubbock.

The male is identified as 30-year-old Sedrick Braxton Jr., of Cleveland OH. The preliminary investigation indicates Braxton shot Villarreal before turning the gun on himself.

This investigation is ongoing.
