Disturbed Woman Arrested After Child & Dog Found Decapitated

KANSAS CITY, MO – A Kansas City woman was arrested on Tuesday after police found her child and dog decapitated during a welfare check.

According to the Jackson County Prosecutor, on Feb. 15, officers with the Kansas City Police Department were dispatched to the 7300 block of Indiana Ave. to conduct a welfare check on a woman.

Dispatch told the officers that the woman claimed that she was being attacked by the devil. The officers were not given a ton of information prior to arrival. However the woman did claim that she was not mentally ill.

Once on scene the officers heard the woman singing from outside of the home. As they knocked on the door the singing got louder.

The officers discovered a trail on blood leading to the front door which prompted them to enter the home. Once inside they found the woman, identified as Tasha Haefs, 35, who was covered in blood.

They then discovered the head of a small child in the main room of the home. In a separate room they found the body of the child. Also in the home the body and head of a decapitated dog was discovered.

When asked what happened, Haefs admitted that she killed the dog and her 6-year-old son. Two bloody knives were discovered inside of the home.

Haefs has been charged with first degree murder and is being held without bond.
