5 Abilene Corrections Officers Arrested for Excessive Use of Force

ABILENE, TX – Five correctional officers in Abilene have been arrested for allegedly using excessive force on a Texas Department of Criminal Justice prison inmate.

Hunter Burkhalter, Daniel Pfister, Franck Moundanga-Nzamba, Seth Petty, and Tyler Seeding have been booked into the Taylor County Jail after each one was indicted for intentionally subjecting a victim to mistreatment that the defendants knew was unlawful.

The acts were committed in a prison near Abilene in May of 2021.

Court documents confirm the defendants were acting under cover of their employment as a correctional officer for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Abilene news stations spoke to the family members of the defendants who did not want to comment but did confirm the victim in the case is a TDCJ prisoner.

A Texas Department of Criminal Justice representative declined to comment and said they will not respond to requests for statements.
