SAN ANGELO, TX- A San Angelo man has been arrested for allegedly running over a San Angelo police officer twice Sunday night near Goodfellow Air Force Base.
According to the affidavit, San Angelo police officers were dispatched to 850 Paint Rock Road regarding a domestic disturbance on Sunday night.
In the dispatch call notes, a male in red short and a tie-dye shirt had committed an assault and was attempting to flee the scene. When officers arrived, they located a man matching the description having a physical altercation with a woman.
One officer got out of his vehicle and while trying to contact the male he observed the male shove the female away and attempt to get into a Kia Forte. Investigators learned from the officer and dash cam footage that the officer struggled with the man at the driver door of the Kia in an attempt to detain him.
The man successfully got the keys into the ignition of the Kia and intentionally and knowingly put the vehicle in reverse. The Kia reserved at a high rate of speed knocking the officer to the ground resulting in injuries to the right side of his body and head. The officer also became entangled under the driver door and the front left tire of the Kia ran over the officer’s legs.
Investigators then learned that the man put the Kia in drive and drove over the officer’s lower body again with the left back tire.
The man stopped and got out of the vehicle and was apprehended by officers on scene.
The man was identified as Devan Gamez and was arrested and booked into the Tom Green County Detention Facility and has a $100,000.00 bond.
