Abilene Killer Sentenced for 2019 Brutal Murder

 

ABILENE, TX- An Abilene man has been sentenced by a Taylor County jury to 99 years in prison after he was convicted of shooting and killing a man after a fight in 2019.

Zachary Morelos has been found guilty of shooting and killing Jacob Garcia, who died at an Abilene hospital after suffering gunshot wounds during a fight.

Abilene police were dispatched to a home on North 10th Street in 2019 for reports of a shooting. Morelos was heading to the Dallas/Fort Worth area when Texas State Troopers pulled him over in Eastland County.

The defense rested Thursday afternoon after two days of witnesses and the jury heard closing arguments. The Taylor County jury found Morelos guilty around 5:15 p.m. Friday afternoon and he was sentenced to 99 years in prison and a $10,000.00 fine on Monday.
