BIG SPRING, TX –– The Big Spring Police Department has arrested three suspects involved in a chase and drive-by shooting.
According to BSPD, at approximately 3:00 a.m. on January 8th, officers were dispatched to the 500 block of North Birdwell for reports of shots fired.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found multiple suspects who had been traveling inside a red Dodge Charger. According to the group, they were chased by passengers aboard a black Chevrolet Camaro and a small white passenger car. The group claimed the driver of the Camaro shot at them.
This caused the driver of the Charger to wreck into a concrete pillar. During the preliminary investigation, officers located several shell casings in the area of the wrecked Dodge Charger.
No passengers were injured by the bullets, but they sustained minor injuries in the crash and were treated at the Scenic Mountain Medical Center.
After the investigation was turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division, detectives learned the altercation began at the intersection of FM 700 and South Gregg Street when the occupants of the small white passenger car broke the front windshield of the Charger.
When the Charger left the scene it was followed by the passenger car and the Camero. The driver of the Camero began firing at the Charger at the intersection of North Service Rd IH-20 and Highway 350.
The chase continued until the North Birdwell until the crash occurred. The Camaro and passenger car fired additional shots before fleeing the scene.
Investigators later identified the occupants of the passenger car as 27-year-old Brittney Jo Hilger and 34-year-old Jennifer Yanez. The driver of the Camaro was identified as 18-year-old Antonio Pena.
Subsequently, investigators obtained arrest warrants for Hilger, Yanez, and Pena.
Yanez and Hilger were arrested on January 12th. Hilger was charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Yanez was charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Parent Contributing to Non-Attendance warrant, Failure to Appear warrant, and Theft of Property over $750.00 warrant.
Pena was arrested on January 16th and charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He was also found in possession of a firearm at the time of his arrest and was subsequently charged with Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon.
