DETAILS: Violent Armed Suspect in Custody After Shooting & Standoff in San Angelo

 

SAN ANGELO – On Sunday evening, 1/16/22 around 8 p.m., Officers were dispatched to a residence in the Unit Block of N. Pope in reference to a shooting victim. Officers arrived on scene and located a 50 year old female who was suffering from a gunshot wound.

The female victim was transported to Shannon Medical Center via the SAFD and was listed to be in stable condition at this time. SAPD’s Criminal Investigations Division assisted with the investigation and the suspected shooter was identified as 37-year-old Luis Herrera. 

During the course of the investigation, Officers were able to learn that Herrera was located in a travel trailer at a residence in the 700 block of Spaulding Street. As officers established a perimeter around the residence, Luis began to discharge a firearm multiple times from inside of the trailer.

SAPD’s “SWAT” and “Crisis Negotiation Team” were utilized and Luis was taken into custody after a brief standoff. Luis was transported to Shannon Medical Center via the SAFD for treatment of minor injuries and the investigation is currently ongoing at this time.

There is no danger to the public and no officers/civilians were injured during the course of this investigation. Additional information/charges will follow as the investigation continues.
