SAN ANGELO, TX- A San Angelo man has been indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury for stealing articles of identifying information from several victims.
An investigator with the San Angelo Police Department spoke with several officers with the SAPD. One officer told the investigator that he arrested the defendant, Ricky Gonzales Martinez, for burglary of a vehicle.
The arresting officer discovered a bag on Martinez that contained several articles of identifying information including 4 driver licenses, 3 birth certificates, 13 social security cards, and 1 passport. Also in the bag was a check made out to the defendant and his birth certificate. When the officer asked Martinez about the bag Martinez said that someone had given it to him.
Investigators called the individuals the identifying information belongs to and contacted them. One victim said that her vehicle had been broken into and that her information and her children’s information had been stolen. Investigators called a second victim who told the same story as the first victim.
In total, 10 articles of identifying information were stolen from these 2 victims.
Both victims did not give Martinez consent to any identifying information that was stolen from them.
Ricky Gonzales Martinez was arrested and booked into the Tom Green County Detention Facility on November 9, 2021 and is still an inmate. Martinez’s bond has been set at $50,000.00.
