San Angelo Man Indicted for Deadly Conduct with a Firearm and Evading

SAN ANGELO, TX- A San Angelo man has been indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury for deadly conduct and evading after he shot at someone’s house and ran from the police.

On September 22, 2021, 2 SAPD officers responded to a shots fired call at the 2400 block of SMU Avenue. Upon arriving, the officers discovered 2 bullet holes in the house. One in the screen door and the other in a bedroom window.

As the shots rang out, the victim went outside to check what was going on. Once outside, the victim saw a small red car and the silhouette of a person holding a gun in the back seat. The victim saw this and went back inside only to hear more gunshots directed at his residence.

An officer not far from the shooting heard the shots and was advised the suspect vehicle was a small red passenger car. The officer saw the subject vehicle at the intersection of Johnson Street and Knickerbocker Road then noticed the vehicle’s registration was expired. The officer activated his emergency lights.

The subject vehicle failed to yield or pull over and continued driving at a low rate of speed until it reached the El Conquistador Apartments, located at 1803 Industrial Avenue. The officer advised that two subjects, one being the defendant Alfredo Navaeh Chavez, got out of the vehicle and began to run. Another officer was able to apprehend Chavez.

Upon being caught, Chavez lost control of a Glock 22 handgun that was in his waistband that the arresting officer recovered.

Home surveillance footage was reviewed, and it was determined that one of the victim’s inside the house knew Chavez.

Alfredo Navaeh Chavez was booked into the TGCDF on September 22, 2021, and is not currently an inmate.

Chavez faces a 3rd degree felony for deadly conduct with a firearm and a state jail felony for evading arrest. The state jail felony carries a possible sentence of 180 days to 2 years in jail and a $10,000.00 fine and the 3rddegree felony charge possibly brings a 2 to 10-year sentence and a $10,000.00 fine.
