Suspect Convicted of Transporting Illegal Immigrants Near Van Horn

VAN HORN, TX –– A Mexican national has been convicted after officials alleged he conspired to transport illegal aliens.

Earlier this year, U.S. Border Patrol agents stationed at Van Horn responded to a call regarding a dead male found on the side of the road.

When agents arrived at the scene, they located the deceased male and a second male waiting beside the body. Both individuals were later identified as illegal immigrants from Mexico.

About an hour after agents received the initial call, agents received information about a group of seven men walking north on Chispa Road, near Needle Park.

The men were subsequently apprehended and transported to the Van Horn Border Patrol Station for processing. The seven men were also determined to be illegal immigrants.

The men were all part of the group of migrants who had been smuggled into the U.S. from Mexico and had Pedro Ramirez-Urbina as a foot guide.

Ramirez-Urbina was subsequently convicted of conspiracy to transport illegal aliens and one count of transportation of illegal aliens.

His sentencing hearing has been scheduled for March 29, 2022.
