According to a statement from the San Angelo Police Department, on Dec. 12 at 1:32 p.m., officers with the SAPD were sent to 1601 Knickerbocker Rd. in reference to a subject breaking windows on an unoccupied truck.

Upon arrival, the Officer observed a male subject, later identified as Samuel Garcia, 36, standing in the bed of a grey Dodge pickup truck.

The officer observed Garcia actively breaking out the rear glass of the truck while he was also verbally stating that a female was inside of the passenger compartment. The officer observed the vehicle to be unoccupied and gave Garcia clear verbal commands to exit the bed of the truck.

Garcia refused to comply with the officer’s commands and continued breaking the rear glass of the truck. The officer then entered into the bed of the truck while continuing to give verbal commands to Samuel.

The officer observed that Garcia was still actively causing damage to the truck and proceeded to try to restrain Samuel to prevent further damage from occurring. Garcia pulled away from the officer and a brief struggle ensued. During the attempt to take him in custody, Garcia was struck with a closed fist.

Additional officers arrived on scene and assisted with taking Garcia into custody. Officers then requested the assistance of San Angelo Fire Department medics to provide treatment for Garcia's self-inflicted injuries. While receiving treatment, Garcia began trying to assault the medics and officers who were on scene.

Garcia was cleared medically on scene and was transported to Tom Green County Jail for Criminal Mischief >=$750<$2,500 and for a Theft warrant he had held prior to this incident. No officers/medics were injured during the course of this incident.
