San Angelo Woman Steals Chevy Sonic from Used Car Lot

SAN ANGELO, TX – Officers with the San Angelo Police Department were able to stop a woman on Wednesday after she stole a car from a used car lot in north San Angelo.

According to the San Angelo Police Department Public Information Officer, on Nov. 3 at around 1 p.m., officers with the SAPD were dispatched to the 23rd and N. Chadbourne, the Armadillo Auto Sales, for the report of a stolen vehicle.

Callers told dispatch that a bright colored 2016 Chevy Sonic had been taken from the dealership but was being followed by a maroon truck. The driver of the truck followed the Sonic down Loop 306 towards the Sunset Mall.

Once SAPD officers were made aware of the Sonic's location they attempted to stop the vehicle. Instead of stopping, the driver fled in the stolen vehicle.

SAPD did not clarify where the chase ended but did state the driver eventually stopped and was taken into custody by officers without further incident.

The driver of the stolen vehicle has been identified as 31-year-old Laquieta Hayes. Hayes has been charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and is currently being held in the Tom Green County Detention Facility on a $15,000 bond.
