Truck Driver Killed in Head-On Crash Near Sonora

 

SONORA, TX – One truck driver was killed in a head on crash Monday morning ON I-10 outside Sonora.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, on Oct. 11 at 5:20 a.m., troopers with the DPS were dispatched to I-10, 8 miles West of Sonora, for the report of a major crash.

When they arrived, the troopers discovered a 2017 Freightliner Truck Tractor and a 2018 Freightliner Truck Tractor that had crashed head on in the middle of the roadway.

The driver of the 2018 Semi, Yuniel Maximo Escalona, 32, of Houston, was pronounced dead on the scene by Justice of the Peace Joseph Harris. He was was not wearing a seatbelt.

Preliminary investigation shows the 2017 Semi was towing Semitrailer, traveling East on IH-10 had struck a guardrail and then entered the West bound lanes of IH-10. The 2017 Semi with the towed trailer struck the 2018 Semi which was also towing a semitrailer traveling Westbound on IH-10.

At the time of the crash the weather was clear and the road was dry. The current speed limit is posted at 80 mph.
