Wayward Abilene Students Destroying School Property in TikTok Trend

ABILENE – Viral TikTok trends are wreaking havoc at Abilene ISD school as students continue damaging property.

The "devious licks challenge" encourages kids to post videos of themselves vandalizing bathrooms, stealing school property, and tampering with soap dispensers and fire extinguishers.

According to the Abilene Police Department's Student Resource Officers, Wylie and Cooper's high schools have been severely impacted.

Check out a video of challenge below:

“This trend has been going around social media the last couple of weeks. Students will cause some sort of vandalism in the bathroom at school and then usually they'll have to video it or take a photo," said Sergeant Joel Harris. "Over the last two weeks, I can tell you that it's been committed at every local middle school and high school have reported incidents."

According to Harris, the majority of the incidents are considered minor –– a Class C misdemeanor of criminal mischief.

According to APD, while posting the videos on TikTok can garner likes they are leading police to the culprits.

“Social media actually helps us to solve some of these things,” said Harris. “Fortunately for us, you know, these people that are posting these videos, and well, they're basically telling on themselves."
