Drunk Driver Almost Crashes Head-on into Sheriff's Deputy

LEVELLAND – A Hockley County Sheriff’s deputy was almost involved in a head-on crash Labor Day weekend when a Levelland man drove at him on the wrong side of the road.

According to the Hockley County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was driving southbound on US 385 in the early morning hours on Sunday. The deputy barely avoided crashing head-on with the wrong-way driver.

When the deputy tried to stop the vehicle, the driver almost crashed into another vehicle when it again crossed into oncoming traffic.

Eventually, the driver, 29-year-old Joseph Jared Villafranco, was stopped and arrested.

Villafranco was booked into the Hockley County Jail on evading arrest, driving while intoxicated, and unlawfully carrying a weapon but was released on a $9,000.00 bond.
