Illegal Immigrant Woman Struck & Killed on I-10 Near Van Horn

VAN HORN – A U.S. Border Patrol Agent responded to a report of a group of twelve suspected illegal aliens walking in the desert south of Interstate 10 near Van Horn, Texas on Sept. 2 at approximately 9:50 p.m.

Agents responded and attempted to track the group as they walked in a northerly direction towards I-10. Approximately one hour after the initial report, agents located the group as they emerged from the brush and crossed a fence line, at which point, agents began pursuing the group on foot as they approached I-10.

As the immigrants crossed I-10, one of the illegals, a citizen of Mexico, was struck by a vehicle traveling in the eastbound lanes of I-10, as she attempted to run across the roadway. Culberson County Emergency Medical Services were immediately dispatched to the scene; however, the woman succumbed to her injuries and was declared deceased by the Culberson County Justice of the Peace.

This incident is being investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety and is being reviewed by the CBP Office of Professional Responsibility. The DHS Office of Inspector General was also notified.
