Stolen Vehicle Crashes During High Speed Chase

 

SWEETWATER, TX – The suspect who stole a vehicle in Sweetwater crashed the car during a high speed chase down I-20 Sunday.

According to the Taylor County Sheriff's Office, on Aug. 15 at approximately 10:16 a.m., a Taylor County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputy located a vehicle reported stolen out of Sweetwater on the I-20 access road in Trent and attempted to stop the stolen vehicle.

The driver of the stolen vehicle then tried to evade the deputy by getting on I-20 going eastbound in the westbound lane of traffic. Deputies pursued the stolen vehicle, which later wrecked outside the Merkel city limits.

The driver, later identified as Carl Grimmer, fled on foot and was later located by a Taylor County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit.  Grimmer was hiding under a tree in some brush and was taken into custody.
